NMMSS 2024, Last Date Extended: The Ministry of Education has extended the last date for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) application to 31st October 2024. This extension gives students more time to secure financial assistance aimed at promoting education for deserving students across the country. The scheme is designed to provide scholarships for students from economically weaker sections, helping them pursue their education up to Class 12 with financial support.

Eligible students can now apply on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP), offering a chance to apply for this prestigious scholarship and receive funds to further their education.

Scholarship Details and Eligibility

The NMMSS offers one lakh fresh scholarships annually to students who have passed the qualifying exams conducted by their State or Union Territory (UT) government. The scholarship amount is Rs 12,000 per year and is awarded to students from Class 9 onwards, continuing through Class 12, provided they maintain satisfactory academic performance.

To be eligible for this scholarship, students must meet the following criteria

  • School Type: Must be studying in a State Government, Government-aided, or local body school.
  • Parental Income: Parental annual income should not exceed Rs 3.5 lakh.
  • Academic Requirement: Students must have achieved at least 55% marks in their Class 7 examination. A 5% relaxation in marks is applicable for SC/ST students.

How to Apply for NMMSS

Eligible students can apply for the NMMSS scholarship through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). To complete your application, follow these simple steps:

  1. Visit the NSP Website: Go to scholarships.gov.in.
  2. Register on the Portal: Provide your necessary details to create an account.
  3. Complete the Application Form: Fill in the required information, including academic and personal details.
  4. Submit Your Application: Once the form is complete, submit it and track your application status through the portal.

Verification Process for NMMSS

After submission, applications are verified in two stages

  • Level 1 (L1) Verification: This is done by the Institute Nodal Officer (INO). The last date for this verification process is 15th November 2024.
  • Level 2 (L2) Verification: The District Nodal Officer (DNO) performs the second round of verification. The deadline for this stage is 30th November 2024.

As of 15th October 2024, the NSP portal has already recorded over 84,606 new applications and 158,312 renewal applications for the NMMSS. Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT)
